Summary

Blasphemous is a punishing action-platformer that combines the fast-paced, skilled combat of a hack-n-slash game with a deep and evocative narrative core. Explore this nightmarish world of twisted religion and discover its many secrets hidden deep inside. Use devastating combos and brutal executions to smite the hordes of grotesque monsters and titanic bosses, who are all ready to rip your limbs off. Locate and equip relics, rosary beads and prayers that call on the powers of the heavens to aid you in your quest to break your eternal damnation.

First and foremost because of its inspired and original setting, its clever use of Christian iconography, and the good number of details and secrets it is able to give to discerning players, it nevertheless fails to shine. In the face of a simple but effective combat system and a good use of the role-playing component, it unfortunately also combines a certain repetitiveness and a level of challenge that is less than incisive, especially in the early part of the campaign. The ingredients are all there, but in a nutshell those sought-after situations that could make the title memorable are lacking, and so Blasphemous comes off as rough, unpolished at times, and this also applies to the technical package; stylistically interesting, sure, but failing to persist on the quality front, ending up oscillating between remarkable and modest. It is a title that nevertheless holds a certain value, and despite its flaws, in the (at least) fifteen hours that make up the campaign, it is able to give an interesting experience, especially to those who will have the patience to carefully explore the game world, in search of the many secrets that lie in its dark depths...

This is absolutely packed to the brim with stupid f***ing horse**** (and a few technical issues on the Switch) but it was very addictive and fun when I didn't feel the need to pull out my hair. Whoever designed the last couple of crystal trials should be hired by government intelligence as a torturer expert and subsequently prosecuted for committing war crimes. Trying to 100% complete the game was also a nightmare that I gave up on.

Really mixed on this one, combat is satisfying but too slow and gets annoying later.. art style is amazing, bosses were annoying.

Levels were also not that good.

If you're looking for a true and challenging Metroidvania, Blasphemous is your way to go.

It's a very punishing platformer, if you blink, you're dead. Lots of secrets around and a fun map to explore.

The art is amazing by the way.

You should definitely try it.
