Summary

Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology. The story is based on Journey to the West, one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. You shall set out as the Destined One to venture into the challenges and marvels ahead, to uncover the obscured truth beneath the veil of a glorious legend from the past.

While it's fun to play. The graphics are especially impressive

Mmmm monke...

Great gameplay, combat kind of like assassin's creed odyssey but good, when it comes to bosses almost everyone will have a different experience some bosses your friend will find easy and you hard and vice versa

one of the best graphics and visuals there is.

I highly recommend reading journey to the west before playing, it will dramatically change the experience and your understanding of the story

...and now we have Journey to the West - Dark Souls edition. Nothing is safe, everything must become Dark Souls.

Serious question:
Why did they decide to make the mischievous Sun Wukong, who is one of the most popular characters ever, mute and devoid of personality? The opening cutscene is what sold me on the game but the story is scarce and disjointed after that.

Also, the performance is a bit touch and go on PS5 with frequent stuttering, even on performance mode. Combat and art direction are very strong though. This entire game is essentially one long boss rush. Constant boss fights are cool and all, but personally I wouldn't mind a puzzle or platforming section every now and then. Levels are linear with lots of annoying invisible walls, but there are secrets and optional paths that lead to - you guessed it - more bosses. Luckily the bosses are all pretty fun and rewarding to fight, although they are not easy. Whoever said this game was easy can burn in hell.

There are some truly terrible sections in this game, like the tightropes in the spider caves, the disappointing flying nimbus level, and the entirety of Thunderclap Temple, but most of the journey (to the west) is a fantastic and addictive experience.

P.S. the secret final boss is amazing.

After one promising chapter and a second good one, Wukong is a downhill starting the beginning of chapter 3. The game lacks of a good level designer and it shows. The maps are too vast and linear, and a nightmare to navigate without an essential map that is missing. The gameplay tends to be pretty repetive but it's pretty fun when the bosses are well designed. But it has flaws in fluidity, the combos are too poor and using items or spells can be tedious because of a lack of reactivity from the game itself. A lot of thses bosses are forgettable, Somes are pretty unique and shines and the minority of them are so badly balanced that it's ruining your experience of the game. The game runs badly, really badly, for some areas, I think a lot about the chapter 3 that is horrific from the start and the beginning of the chapter 6 who is the worst chapter of the game. It's sad to end on such a bad experience. For a first game for a first studio, I would have put a 7/10 but since the true ending was soft locked for me and that the original ending is a true shit of a reward for such a demanding game, I put a light 6. A frustrating experience when you see all the hype this game gets even though it's far from a goty material.
