As some of you may have read prior to this. Tekken is my fav franchise of all time. And tekken 2 is my fav game of all time. I never played tekken 1 because it looked muddy. And frankly tekken 2 was my first ever game that I ever owned. So tekken 2 had already set the bars wayyyyy too high. This game however, although way inferior to tekken 2 is still a great game. This game felt like fresh air, the atmosphere was different. The combat although the same, still felt somewhat different. The graphics do look better than Tekken 2 I will admit that. However graphics don't really compare to the material, moving on.

This game further expands on the storyline of the characters that we have gotten used to just in the first 3 games. Although their story times isn't as expanded as like the current games. Back then it was normal to have vague storylines for all characters, when it came to fighting games. So I'm not gonna criticise this game too much on that. Apart from the storylines, this game introduced us to some of the most beloved characters of the franchise. Such as xiayou and jin, or the spam king himself Mr Eddy, and we got one of my beloved characters....the icon....the legend....the moment....Gon the lactose intolerant king😩. This game was great for its time and contributed further entertainment for this franchise. Also another element that I love are the punk, emo, looks most characters have, with more upbeatsy music for all characters. Like!!!!! To unlock characters is fairly easy apart for unlocking Doctor Bosconovitch they had no business making this man so damn hard to unlock even revisiting it, still difficult.

Anyway....BRING GON BACK YOU COWARDS.

I don't think it was better than Tekken 5,but still for ps1 game,it looked great.Character selection is limited, gameplay was same as 5,and I can say it was less frustrating because first 4 fights are easy,5 to 7 is medium, and the ending is hard.I don't like how you can pretty much win by spamming one move, but when you try a combo you are getting your ass kicked, kinda weird if you ask me.I only wanted to play as Jin and Nina, since those two are my favorite characters, just wanted to check it out,you pick one character win 10 fights, and you've beaten the game.Cutscenes are weird as hell, story feels like a mess, and there isn't much to talk about it.I will check out the rest, but I highly doubt it's gonna be as good as 5th one

A great improvement over Tekken 2, with a lot of new contents and a larger roster of playable characters.
The game still drags what I like to call "Arcade-era unfairness", where the CPU sometimes decide to absolutely destroy you with absolute input reading and invincibility frames (I am looking at you, Heihachi), but it's still way more enjoyable and fair than the previous two games.

There are now new possibilities while fighting thanks to a new axis, and that adds both depths to the game and some peculiarity to the series.
3D graphics are some of the best on the console and animations looks less stiff and uncanny tho: we're still talking about 1998 graphics, but they were starting to look pleasant to look at, compared to the First Tekken which was a real eyesore. The stages are particulary good looking, with some of them becoming my favourites in the series so far.

As always, the plot of Tekken Is as Crazy as it can get: this time Kazuya, the first protagonista of the series, is out of the game and is replaced by his son Jin. I admit it was a brave choice to completely replace the most famous character of the franchise, but I appreciate It as it made the narrative less repetitive and gave us a greater sense of the time passing in the game universe.
The cast is made both of new characters and old champions aged up, such as Paul and Lei hitting their mid 40s, creating what I would consider maybe one of the best roster in the fighting game scenes at the time. Sure, Street Fighter had more iconic and good-looking characters, but Tekken's ones grew on me way more. Maybe it's the way their backstories are so interesting or well fleshed out, or maybe it's just because I've seen some of them both as young fighters and old fucks (while Street Fighters characters, at the time, not only weren't aging, but were getting visually younger too). In any case, fighting as an old Lei after seeing him in the Tekken OVA or as the new King after the sad realization that my old fav was dead really made for a greater immersion, for me.

So far, I'm liking the series quite a lot. Tekken 3 is definitely the best so far, and I can't wait to play the next games in a series that seems to keep getting better and better.
