Summary

Dash into a stylish and thrilling action-adventure platformer set in a mythological Persian world where the boundaries of time and space are yours to manipulate. Play as Sargon and evolve from sword-wielding prodigy to extraordinary legend as you master acrobatic combat and unlock new Time Powers and unique super abilities.

This game really is so fun. To start, the combat. It can be so damn difficult, but in a way where you want to get better and not in an infuriating way. And for those who don't wish to have such a hard-core experience, the settings do wonders being able to adjust damage done and taken to however way you chose with difficulty sliders for a custom difficulty. Where this game shines for me however is the platforming. Once you reach the final parts of the game and unlocked most or all abilities, the traversal really opens up and shines and becomes truly incredible. Some of the platforming challenges and puzzles can be so intuitive that require you to string together many perfectly times moves and jumps, and it makes for such a satisfying experience after beating whatever challenge that was in your way. The collectibles and map are good for a metroidvania, but I do wish there was a minimal displayed on your screen while playing, but that is a very small inconvenience that doesn't ruin the experience. Edit: All bugs regarding side quests have been fixed. Go trophy hunt people

Two months after it's release, it's finally done, my 189 platinum was this one and what a fucking game my friends!
I love Prince of Persia since Playstation 2, I have all the games in my collection. For a long time now, I've been waiting for a sequel, a new title or whatever, something that was a Prince of Persia game. The story isn't hard to understan, the gameplay is super fluid, but also a bit challenging. I need more Prince of Persia, hope Ubisoft never foget about again. Fucking recomend to you if you havent play it yet!

An overall smartly crafted Metroidvania and good return to the franchise. With some fun abilities and engaging combat that is let down by a tepid story, forgetful characters, and some bugs. The end game collectathon after receiving all your powers is less engaging than the best in the genre, and a quest breaking bug stopped me from getting 100%, which made me not even attempt getting a 99%.

Words cannot accurately describe how much I dislike his haircut. I wish I was kidding when I say my experience improved immensely when I discovered I could change his hairstyle so that I no longer had to look at his stupid, overused, ugly and borderline racist looking head.

The rest of the game doesn't look great either. Graphics aren't everything, of course, but I expected more from a “AAAA” studio like Ubisoft. If they were trying to replicate the look of the old Prince of Persia games released on the original Xbox and PS2 then they nailed it.
This wouldn't be so bad if the performance was smooth but on the Switch I experienced frequent framerate drops and loading screens inbetween areas. If the game looks like ass it should at least run like horse.

Luckily, the gameplay is great. It borrows/steals a lot of mechanics and ideas from other metroidvanias like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous (it's a shame they didn't steal their artstyle as well), but they've also added their own ideas to make it feel fresh. All of the time-bending, anime-style powers that you unlock are so cool and fun to experiment with, combat and platforming are very enjoyable, the story is… passable, and the whole experience only gets better and better the more you play. If this is the first metroidvania you've ever played, it'll probably be one of your favourite games ever.

Despite my numerous and possibly petty complaints, I do like this game quite a lot.
I think it's worth buying, especially considering that it's already on sale for nearly 50% off (yikes), but I would recommend you change Sargon’s appearance to the Sands of Time skin at the beginning of your playthrough and avoid the Switch port if you can. Yes, I will keep buying games like this on the Switch and yes, I will keep complaining about their performance until they release a Switch 2 or until the Steam Deck becomes available in Australia.

Even though Ubisoft is a horrible company, I hope this game makes them a lot of money so that they continue to make more installments of one of my favourite series. Prince of Persia was a dead franchise for the longest time and I'm glad it's finally been resurrected with a game that doesn't suck. On a completely unrelated note, can Nintendo please make a remake/re-imagining of Zelda II and make it into a metroidvania kind of like this? Please and you're welcome.
