Experience the original adventure of Ryu Hayabusa, the shadow warrior, in this acclaimed and challenging action-platformer from the NES era!

slide 1 to 2 of 2
Ninja Gaiden is a fun, and exceedingly difficult NES era platformer. There are some really cool things about this game. The movement feels really solid for a platformer of this era (although by no means without frustration). Some really well done cutscenes and music is present in the game as well. Levels are long platforming stretches with enemies spawning and respawning when they move off screen. Each level ends with a challenging boss fight. The real issue here is the difficulty. This game is freaking hard. And I don't say that lightly. It took me over a month to get through this, at a good pace, due to the frustration. I would struggle to say I had a good time playing this, and even beating it just felt exhausting. Even so, with some great cutscenes and some interesting visuals, as well as some solid, if frustrating, NES era platforming, this one is worth a look.

Top 10 hardest games of all time my ASS. I feel people exaggerate about the difficulty of this game. I had a harder time beating Bloodborne and the Farewell chapter + the C-Sides from Celeste. The game is hard don't get me wrong but everything before Act-6 is manageable. The game is fair with its checkpoints; NES-era games will send you to the start of the game for losing all your lives but in this game, it only sends you to the beginning of the level. The game has questionable design choices though. Like how enemies respawn if the place they spawned goes out of the screen, however, you can use this for your advantage, because sometimes if an enemy goes out of screen they'll despawn and you don't have to kill them. The game has a lot of bottomless pits and with how annoying it is to jump sometimes, it takes a while to get used to it. Dying at the final boss will instead of sending you to the previous checkpoint or even the beginning of 6-4, it will send you all the way to the start of 6-1. Extremely frustrating and I believe this kinda happens with other bosses in the game. Also, those DAMN birds SUCK. However, a couple of reasons why I don't consider the game to be so hard is because of how you can exploit the Ai. For example, when fighting Kelbeross the Act-4 boss, you can just stand below the pillars and they will never hit you. You can also damage boost a couple of sections of the game, even the Act-5 boss Malth. And without a doubt the item that can make this game a cakewalk is the Jump & Slash weapon. This OBLITERATES everything in the game. Enemies block a platform? Jump & Slash, enemies throwing projectiles over a pit? Jump & Slash, Bosses? Lmao just Jump & Slash. Jump & Slash is so strong it can 1 or 2 hit bosses and yes even the final boss. Jump & Slash is your best friend for Act-6 which is the real hard part of the game. Most of my deaths were in Act-6 so remember to look online where those Jump & Slash are so you can cheese the game. The story was kinda nice I guess, it's a typical avenge a dead family member plot. I'm impressed that they're even good looking cutscenes for an NES game. The only part of the story that was stupid was the love interest. The main character met her once trying to kill him and then he just fell in love I guess. With no chemistry between them in the end, out of nowhere he loves her and kisses her. But eh whatever, this was basically how all the stories in games and movies were in the 80's lmao.

In conclusion, I can't really give my Pros & Cons. I don't know how I feel about this games... well "game design". Levels are frustrating yet manageable, their designs while outdated still enjoyable. Combat is clunky, yet entertaining; the clunky combat IS the game. The Enemies are irritating, yet they mostly die in one hit. The game at the end of the day is just a good NES game.

That's all!
Thanks for reading my personal opinion.

Really good graphics and narrative cutscenes. Too bad the level design and the bad conceived difficult level just make this game unplayable and boring. What a shame.
