New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

Nearly every level in this game is immediately forgettable. It's so bland and uninspired and honestly boring. It doesn't help that the game is incredibly easy too... unless you play it with your girlfriend like I did, in which case it becomes a hellish nightmare of a game. For some reason Nintendo refuses to use every button available on the joy con and they decided to make run and grab the same button. This means that you'll often accidentally pick up and throw your partner to their death while trying to make a jump. You also have to constantly battle for the screen and all of this makes for an incredibly frustrating experience. On top of this, each level has a timer which discourages you from exploring or collecting any of the collectibles. This isnt a huge issue because the collectibles are pointless anyway. Coins give you lives which are so redundant and outdated. Running out of lives is a mild inconvenience, so mild it makes you wonder why they are even in the game. If you're going to put coins in every level give me something to spend them on, like new costumes or something. If you play with multiple friends and try to race each other to the end it can be fun as those frustrating mechanics become unintentionally fun competitive features but the game does not work as a cooperative or solo experience.

A worn but still enjoyable experience, 100% completion was quite grindy, and many sections and levels felt sub par/uninspired in comparison to other games in the series, but a stellar entry in the admittedly oversaturated series.

Pretty fun game, not much different from the Wii U version aside from Toadette (which we didn't play).
