Summary

Mario Strikers Charged is a Mario soccer Wii game and the sequel to the Nintendo GameCube game Super Mario Strikers. Up to four players can participate in this game as play soccer, attempting to kick the ball into another opponent's goal. The soccer in this game, however, has several differences than the real soccer, such as the ability to tackle other players with a minimal penalty, using Mario-themed items to give players an advantage over their opponents, and playing with stage hazards effectively. This game places a higher emphasis on individual character attributes compared to its precedent, by not only assigning stats, but by also giving team captains a unique Super Ability and the Mega Strike, an opportunity to score up to six goals. Another introduced mechanic is the power level of the ball: indicated by the color of the glow, the shots of the ball become more quick and powerful the more active it is, thus making it easier to score goals with.

Hasn't aged a day. It's the best sports game Nintendo has ever made (perhaps anyone has ever made?). Charging up that ball and rocketing in a shot is just as satisfying as powered up skillshots or the hidden tech behind speedster abilities (looking at you toad flip), offering a surprisingly high skill ceiling that you'll have to at least dip your toe in to beat the genuinely challenging story mode.

Then those mad bastards decided to casually lump on one of the most understanding soundtracks going, while also making the whole look and feel of the game WAY more metal than it ever needed to be.

I don’t think i’ll ever get over how thoroughly I love Mario Strikers Charged Football. This game has had me in a chokehold since I first laid eyes on it and my enjoyment has never wavered since. This game is absolutely beautiful, down to the finest of details, like the varied animations for a character to bicycle kick, or spike a shot like a volleyball, it oozes quality in any and every way possible. The developers clearly poured their love into the game as well, the music makes you want to get up and dance, the characters and graphical style has aged like a fine wine, and the gameplay is addictive and borderline obsessive to a point where I always have a craving to whip out another run at the Road to the Striker Cup mode. I recently learned, after years of trying to complete runs with unorthodox combinations, that the age old team composition of Donkey Kong, Boo, Hammer Bro. and Dry Bones might just be a little TOO good - I managed to go 37 wins straight undefeated to take home the championship - only missing one Golden Boot in the Crystal Cup by a single goal - and it was an absolute joy from beginning to end. I don’t think a Mario Sports title, or even sports title in general, could grip me like this game has. I LOVE Mario Strikers Charged Football. It sits well and truly in my top 10 games, whether single player or multiplayer, which is an outstanding achievement, and I think i’ll always continue to come back for another run at the Striker Cup. (I could keep going, but best wrap it up here)
