Summary

A remaster of the 3DS game for Nintendo Switch. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon gives players multiple mansions to explore, a variety of puzzles to solve and new ghosts to capture. Armed with the Poltergust 5000, a ghost-sucking, vacuum-like invention, Luigi must complete a number of missions assigned to him by Professor E. Gadd. Shining a light on the ghosts is no longer enough to stun them into immobility. Players need to activate a new strobe function to stun the ghosts before sucking them up with the Poltergust 5000. Every mansion is filled with unique puzzle elements and ghosts. Players must figure out how to defeat each one of them and find hidden clues and keys to unlock new areas.

Fun gameplay and compelling level design. though it sometimes feels clunky and repetitive

This is not a horrible game, but it really messed with my brain. Trigger warning to completionists and people with ocd. Let me explain this and get it out of the way before I talk about the great. The reason I say this is that the 5 mansions here are all level based, so every mansion is divided into a certain number of levels. This sections out the gems. I don't know if I can explain it all that well, but certain gems are locked to certain levels only, and it does not tell you which gems should be obtained in which levels. The collectible system fits an open sense of exploration, but the structure is level based with certain areas clearly cut off like a linear experience. The pacing is just off for completionists who like doing everything before finally finishing the game. Now that's my only complaint. If you just play the campaign, this entire issue is irrelevant to you. The graphics are not a complete overhaul, but they are a real nice improvement for the switch from the 3ds game. I know I bashed the pacing before, but I do genuinely love the level design and the puzzles in this game, they're really awesome, it's just my brain obsessing over not being able to collect everything as soon as possible. The combat is what you'd expect, I'm not the best at it but it is good here. The themes and areas are pretty basic, but are executed fairly well, they definitely aren't as unique as the 3rd game but it's good here. The last thing I want to say is that there are some pretty annoying levels here with the toads, they just suck having around and always having to drag them along and them not following you. But anyways, this is a really solid game I do recommend to anyone who is interested in this, just maybe not for full price.

Fun but not a fan of the mission based level design, additionally some missions were just tedious and lacked any real fun value.

You always get a certain nostalgic/fun feeling when you play Nintendo games. I will say for me they always get that quite right, and are unrivalled by competition when it comes to that aspect of their games.

I honesty really enjoyed playing this, I never played the original so this was completely fresh for me. Excellent puzzles, a great gameplay loop with fun mechanics, and really good boss fights. As expected the level designs are very nice too, the extra levels are always fun.

I've seen people complaining about the price as this is a HD remaster, but that's standard now so I don't really see the problem there. Collectibles were really cool to. I'd highly recommend, if you've not played this before.

Dramatic step down from LM1, got bored after a few hours. Clearly aimed at little kids in a way the first 1 just wasn't. LM1 the ghosts had history, they were people who had died, and now they're just slapstick cartoons.
