Fantastic action/strategy game. It's a no-nonsense, to the point, easy to play, unabashedly Japanese game. If you're looking for a world to get lost in, this isn't it. If you're looking for deep strategic complexities, this isn't it. If you're looking for the next Bayonetta or Monster Hunter, this isn't it. It's a game that commits to the bit (almost) entirely and dares to win you over with its relatively unique gameplay and art style.

Gameplay can be described as a tower defense game mixed with a hack and slash musou game. Your character spends half of each level guiding a priestess through a demon-infested area, collecting resources and rescuing villagers. Those villagers can be assigned different combat roles and placed where desired. The other half is spent defending the priestess from the demons along with the villagers. They act within a given range, but your character is free to move around and attack everywhere.

It only takes a level or two before the game comes together, at which point you'll know if this is for you or not. The relatively simple nature of the gameplay allows room for everything to breathe. It all feels intentional.

The story is simple and straightforward, which is perfect. Strategy games have a tendency to lean into story heavily, which works well if the story is good but more often than not is an absolute drag. You're a good spirit summoned by a priestess who you have to help cleanse a mountain full of villages from evil spirits. That's it.

One's opinion on this game starts and ends with how you feel about the core gameplay loop. Personally, I loved it. It was exactly what I wanted it to be once I heard the premise, and I can't believe a game this un-fussed, un-complex, and understated was made by a major company. Too many games are desperate to waste your time with tedious quests and hours of the most boring dialogue imaginable. Kunitsu-Gami is the answer to that.

Something special for sure. But i don't think they did a good job in making the player care about anything even after 3 hours i still don't know anything about the story and the gameplay is not bad but not something i would play for 15 hours ( for the story)

really just below average

Gameplay 9/10
"Combination of strategy Tower defense and hack & Slash Genre, well that's kinda unique and fresh. Every mission and boss fight introduce you something so you always received some new content and gameplay mechanics. Also there's some small section of village building"

Graphic 9/10
"It looks beautiful and well detailed deeply on japanese culture, I mean everything design unique if I'm being honest, nothing looks shallow or lazy, well done"

Soundtrack 7/10
"It really helps the atmosphere and pretty dynamic depends to the situation, most of them are folk japanese music's but suddenly you hear some jazz from a boss stage !!! It's surprisingly good, but there's only one problem, and that is at the end of the game music's get a little bit repetitive"

Story 6/10
"There's no story!!! Some dialogue at opening and some at the ending, that's it!! Everything straightforward and simple, but that's kinda enough for these type of game, but if there was a good story it would make it perfect"

Performance 9/10
"Pretty good with great performance, the only problem is sometimes goddess Stop moving with her own will! And few seconds of that is crucial to the gameplay"

Should you play?
"Totally, this game is a pure hidden gem from Capcom and created by re engine (resident evil engine) combination of genre's makes some unique experience that you can't find nowhere else"

Final Score "8/10"
Platform : Xbox series S
