The movement in this one is awesome. Love the idea of spell books, but they're clunky to swap between and I stuck with the Hydro Storm spell once I got the wind tome. Love how the it suddenly busts open for exploration in the last third after getting around the castle was laborious for the first chunk of the game.

With Harmoney of dissonance completed, i finally finished the Castelvenia triology on the gba , although this was the 2nd one released in 2002 , i played it last since i started with Aria of sorrow .
This entry has some of the most complex metroivenia maps i ve seen , with 2 alternative maps that changes the aesthetics , loots and enemies in each section which is kind of crazy considering the age of this game , but sadly it suffered heavily cause of this , mainly the boss quality has gone down a lot , not only the game is way easier and streamlined compared to it contemporaries , but also the boss designs and move sets are pretty limited , and visually they look and move like the earlier bosses of the other games , even final bosses which was a disappointment imo .

On a positive note the game ditched the DSS system from Circle moon for a more fun one , DSS was too unbalanced imo , relying on luck to get special attack and bonuses with some of them trivilazing the bosses . The sub weapon/Elemental books system is a far more balanced system imo , in addition to that all special combination are feasible , bit reliant on rng and farming , you just to have to explore the map thoroughly and find the books .

Story wise it is as classical as it can get , with the bad , neutral and good endings respectively . Some soundtracks are nice and all bit they are nowhere near as memorable as it predecessor let alone it successor .

In conclusion , another solid addition to my metroivenia record 7/10

The most fun i had with a metroidvania, you NEED a map to know what is inaccessible and where you need to go to find the required tools or you gonna be lost backtracking forever. Soundtrack is very weak comparing to other castlevanias. But gameplay and bosses are good, level design although good having 2 castles is just an excuse to make this game unnecessary long and tedious. The foward dash is a game changer and the best ability in any castlevania game.

Honestly had fun! Probably the easiest castlevania game I've played so far.

200% completion★ This was fun to play. Enticing plot and cool bosses. The two maps feature can get pretty confusing at first but over time, you'll be able to work through it. I like the secrets hidden around the castle, it adds challenge to the game. Solid artstyle, definitely sparks my interest in other Castlevania games.

Great game but the bosses are SOOO easy. Also pretty dead final boss. Admittedly I didn’t like the whole two castle thing.
