Summary

The iconic Black Ops series is back with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War - the direct sequel to the original and fan-favorite Call of Duty: Black Ops. Black Ops Cold War will drop fans into the depths of the Cold War’s volatile geopolitical battle of the early 1980s. Nothing is ever as it seems in a gripping single-player Campaign, where players will come face-to-face with historical figures and hard truths, as they battle around the globe through iconic locales like East Berlin, Vietnam, Turkey, Soviet KGB headquarters and more. Beyond the Campaign, players will bring a Cold War arsenal of weapons and equipment into the next generation of Multiplayer and Zombies experiences. Welcome to the brink. Welcome to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

As a stand alone game Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War is pretty good. (Could have been named black ops 5 tho) It features a good single-player campaign, the much beloved Zombies mode with Dead Ops Arcade making a return and the multiplayer which this time around includes some new and exciting modes. The Story campaign is good, however had the potential to be great. But still good never the less. The title is weird considering it is a continuation of The original Black ops. This game likes to pay tribute to the original black ops campaign which is fine but sometimes it feels way too try hard. There are missions where they don't feel as impactful as they did in the OG Black ops.

Yes, it's still an adrenaline fuelled adventure and it has some exciting gameplay sequences like the infiltration in the KGB Lubyanka headquarter building which feels like it has never been done for in other COD games.  I absolutely loved that, definitely the highlight of the whole campaign in my books. The 80s music in some of the mission was also a pleasant surprise which really puts us to live through the fantasy of that time period.

Another new thing that Black Ops Cold War does is adding downtime between missions. After you complete a few missions, you go back to the safehouse, and there you can start a chat with the new team members. It's a nice break of pace and you'll get more insights about who these new cast of characters are and some banter with the returning Mason and Woods. Later in the game, they give you a choice of what to talk about and that will affect the ending of the game. In that safehouse you can select your missions and find clues and solve puzzles and those puzzles may also affect your ending. There's a also a cute mini arcade where you can play old atari games.

The campaign is good but doesn't hold up to the original. The voice acting for the returning characters is great but it was better back then. What's mind boggling tho although this is a "next gen game" graphics wise it doesn't look better than the 2019 modern warfare which is a ps4 game. Zombies is an amazing experience however. There are new changes to zombies system which isn't enough space to talk about on here however these new additions and the cross-progression make for a better overall Zombies experience which hardcore fans would adore to try.

Multiplayer is a bit rocky however. In some matches, where I am against normal human beings like myself, the game is fun. But on most of the matches where due to the skill-based matchmaking I feel like I am against god-tier pro players who play the game 24/7. So there needs to be a balance when it comes to that. Also I love the fact there are some maps from black ops 2. Truly a nostalgia trip as black ops 2 will be the best cod game to me ever.

Cold War gives me those Black Ops 1 vibes, with Mason and Woods back in action. Adler’s cool, the guns feel great, and the campaign’s a wild ride. But it’s too short, and sadly I experienced those damn graphical glitches and stutters that keeps pulling me out of the experience.

Even with the bumps, the story pulls you in. It’s short, but it burns. I just wish it didn’t fade so fast.

Campaign fell so short - could have been a campaign to remember but it ended prematurely and I feel like there was more to explore. The concept was cool though, took me back to Black Ops 1.

I was really enjoying the gameplay. The stealth segments were nicely done so they never felt out of place or forced too much. The shooting was fun and the action never stopped.

I have two problems tho. First: the mission that keeps repeating. Yeah, I know why they did it but oh god I was so done with it after the second repeat. I was ready to shoot not just everyone around but also myself 😅
And the second is the story itself. I dunno if that was the choice of devs but at the end I was totally siding with Russians. All the story missed was every two minutes jumscare of eagle flying around and Adrel screaming into your ear "MURICAAAAAAAAA!!!" 🤣

Yeah so what pushed me through this game was surprisingly the gameplay. The story was the usual: 'America saves everyone woohoo!' - not interesting in any way (maybe except for the final plot twist)

(Campaign mode review)

As all the CODs, too short. Black ops history vibes (interesting). I like the dialogues/decissions mode during the game. Good levels design but gameplays really shorts. I miss more war cinematics impressive situations and QTEs.

Anyway is a good game to enjoy it during a weekend.
