A start of a new era for AC games. The new combat system specially the counter attack is a huge fun.

After dropping this boring game 3 times, finally completed after 4 months just for the sake of moving on to other games.

Just a really troubled game. It's filled with all these massively glaring and stupid issues, ranging from enormous bug issues and jank to bizarre story choices and writing to the fact that it literally takes 6 hours until you actually get to play as the main protagonist, as a fully grown adult, actually wearing the fucking assassin costume. There's so many problems. All this shit will happen like off screen and the characters will just address it like we saw it all. Characters just know who each other are even when you think it should be a much bigger deal. The main character in the past portion is the son of like one of the really big villains and they don't even have a scene where he like finds that out, he just knows. Sometimes the gameplay choices are just stupid with repetitive, boring, slow, and dumb missions. Even when the Desmond stuff is interesting or unique it's still delivered so boring.

All that said, this game is bearable. Killing people has yet to be more satisfying- Connor has this awesome brutality and impact behind his attacks, when they aren't glitching out. Free running around is fun, and running on trees is such a smooth extension of that that works well. Even if the story execution isn't always there, there are attempts at interesting ideas in the colonial/revolutionary America stuff that I appreciate. I have a soft spot for early Americas stuff and American Indian stuff, so I'm particularly partial to the setting and character. I like tragic elements but I wish they were handled like WAAAAAY better. The music is really good. Honestly biggest compliment I can pay this game is that I can actually imagine playing it to like relax. Like running around, exploring and hunting in the frontier and that sort of thing. I probably never really would, but I can imagine doing it. Much more so than any other AC game thus far. Honestly I'm being slightly nice to this game and giving it probably 1 more star than it deserves, but whatever. We all get that one
