You played one, you've played em all. Nothing too special here. It was fun, don't get me wrong. That being said there is nothing here to keep me coming back for more. The game modes are played out... It's just...meh....

This game unfortunately got off to a bad start with a bad launch, plagued by broken servers. Ignoring this rough launch, however, XDefiant is a fantastic arena shooter that includes many features that made old Call of Duty games so great. Mark Ruben and many other ex-CoD developers have delivered a stellar game made by CoD fans for CoD fans. The most prominent feature that really captures that casual feel is the matchmaking system. While Activision has ruined the CoD franchise with the introduction of a toxic, anti-hardcore player, algorithmic skill-based matchmaking system, XDefiant instead matches players solely based on connection, which actually creates a varied gameplay experience that doesn't punish you for improving. The gameplay has light team-based mechanics, with unique Factions with their own abilities, making it more akin to Black Ops 4, which was one of my favourite CoD multiplayers. The gunplay feels good, the movement is nice, the time-to-kill and hit detection feels fair, and the maps have great design. I love that the Factions and maps are based around different Ubisoft games, as it gives XDefiant a lot of character. Sure there are a few nitpicks I have, like the NET code, lack of crouching, no Prestige mode, lack of unique camo challenges, but with this being a live service game with a promising future, there is nothing stopping them from adding these features in a post-launch update. And I also suppose that the shop is a bit overpriced, but that can be forgiven as this is a free game after all. I'm overall very happy with XDefiant, as I can easily see this being the CoD substitute everyone needed.
