Killing orks isn't as fun as it looks, and the Imperium's weapons aren't as satisfying to use as they should be (except for my beloved meltagun, which has to be one of the sexiest, hottest things I've ever laid my hands on, and the only thing that kept me going through the dark times). The greenskins themselves are a tiresome foe; yes, they look fearsome in great numbers, but they cartoonishly pop like balloons full of red paint after a couple of pricks, and I've observed on many occasions the creatures continuously running into walls in the midst of battle like dementia-ridden children with cerebral palsy - hardly a worthy challenge for an Astartes. The forces of chaos were better opponents but they folded almost immediately after being unraveled.
This war would have been more fun to fight with a battle brother by my side. Alas, I had to go through this alone…
[The lack of splitscreen co-op is the reason I never bought this game when it came out, and it continues to bother me now. Space Marine 2 looks a lot better, but it also doesn't have splitscreen co-op, and I don't feel very motivated to play it any time soon after being underwhelmed by the first one. Although, it's probably unfair to judge this kind of game that was released 14 years ago when I just played the latest DOOM that was released 1 month ago. Oh well, I think I'll stick to reading the Horus Heresy for now - the lore has always been more interesting than actually playing the Warhammer games anyway.]
