Summary

The Sly Collection is a remastered compilation of the first three Sly Cooper games, developed by Sanzaru Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. Released in 2010 for PlayStation 3 and later for PlayStation Vita, it includes Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves, and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves, all with enhanced HD graphics, Trophy support, and stereoscopic 3D compatibility on PS3. The collection preserves the original gameplay while offering visual and performance improvements.

The first game is almost perfect. It only really struggles in one area, and that's combat. To get combat out of the way, you can be hit a max of 3 times before dying, and more often than not it's less than 3. It's just so annoying not having hp in this game. Other than that, I have a small complaint with some of the weird levels like racing or shooting with sly. They're fun changes of pace, but they don't feel all that great, besides the racing that becomes sort of fun once you figure it out. Everything else about the game is perfect. The visuals for a ps2 port are amazing and it runs well. The story isn't mind bending, but for the characters it has it's actually really good. Sly cooper is just one of my personal favorites video game characters ever, and although there's bias for sure on my part, I do think there's some merit in saying he's one of the coolest video game characters ever. The platforming and collectible hunting is why you play this. I have never played any other game ever where it combines platforming and stealth so effortlessly, it's incredible. The bottle hunting here too is one of the most satisfying collectibles in any game ever. This first game would be perfect were it not for the lack of hp for Sly. The second game improves in some aspects and gets worse in others. The story is a step down to me because it's just a retelling of the first game basically, but the characters take a huge step up. More characters with more personality equals a better game. From the relationships created and burned to the twists and turns, the characters dynamics make the games plot. The gameplay as well has its ups and downs. The bottle collecting aspect has improved, I like exploring larger hub worlds, but a lack of tracking is makes the last few bottles infuriating to get in some cases. The level designs are good in some instances and horrible in others. Finally the missions, I didn't like a lot of the mission structure. Playing as Murray and Bentley had it's charms in the beginning, but wore out real quick after a while. Even the missions with Sly sometimes feel like a chore. The game is still amazing and worth playing don't get me wrong, but it's not as good as the first game in my opinion, and I have more nostalgia for the second game so it's not bias on my part giving the first game a better rating even though the second game is more beloved by fans. This 3rd game is such a disappointment to me. So the story is mostly whatever throughout, with only the last chapter having an actually nice ending, but the characters were all fun personality wise. Now for the gameplay which is where all my issues lie with this game. Firstly there are no clue bottles, which is what makes sly so damn good. With this lack of bottles, already the gameplay is lacking, but because they kept the hub worlds, it's just complete emptiness. This game would have worked out much better as simple levels you go through to eliminate meaningless traversal. I also found some areas and missions to be completely hard and not fun at all. I will give it that it is creative, and some missions are pretty fun, but the fun missions are the exception not the rule. To people who absolutely loved the first 2 I would still recommend finishing off the trilogy, but if you're already not a fan of the first 2, you might want to skip this one. Overall however for the collection, the first 2 shine too much that it helps mask some of the bad from the 3rd game.

My childhood favorite series!

In 2023 i played trough first 3 games and platiumed them.

I was shocked how good they held up.

1st game is still fun platformer akin to crash/spyro But with a surprisingly dark story. Easily 8/10.

2nd game is for a lack of a better term
A sandbox platformer. The story is build on from a first game. It is surprising how far they take the pg7 rating here. There are themes of greed and revenge here as well as pretty blatant drug referneces. The humor lands more often than not. There is a LOT of stuff that went over my head 20years ago, but found meaning now. 9/10

3rd game has me most nostalgic. It wraps up the trilogy very nicely. Some characters feel a little under utilised. Once again the game feels fairly mature for a pg7 game in a good way. 8/10.

One of my favorite games of all time with great story, writing, characters, music and level and character design. The ending of the trilogy is perfect and every game just got better and better.

I will remember this game for the rest of my life and the characters mean so much to me, I'm getting this game tattooed on me someday.

Sly 2 is my favorite when it comes to the story, Sly 3 is the best gameplay and has the best minigames, the pirates map being my favorite with us controlling the ship.
