Summary

A century of Transylvanian tranquility is about to come to a shocking end. Once again the mortifying screams of helpless villagers shake the ground as they huddle against new nightmarish horrors unleashed by the Duke of Darkness, Count Dracula. And this time he has a tombstone with your name on it, Simon Belmont. You must descend into Castle of the Undead and its gruesome ground, accompanied by the most chilling sound effects to ever tingle your spine. Inside, a freshly dug 11 levels maze features the treacherous Terrace of Terror, the dangerous Rotating Dungeon, the Sunken Ruins of Lost Spirits, torture chambers and creature filled caves. Use your whip like a grappling hook and swing past hundreds of traps and a host of ghost freaks, living corpses and hidden goblins. All while dodging or destroying the unpredictable spitting lizards, carnivorous coffins, and more. Find the concealed weapons needed to defeat everything from eerie phantoms to haunted furniture. Then prepare to find yourself face-to-thing with hideous torments like the Tongue Lasher, the Darkest Knight, the Bone-Afide Horseman and the Granite Crusher. When your nerves get shot, use your password and take a breather. But forge on, Simon Belmont, because if you though Dracula was down for the count, he's only just begun to fright!

Oh boi, where should I start. Should I start with the magnificent 16 bit graphics that look impressive till this day or should I start with the added 8 directional whip movement that make things so much fairer.
NOTICE THE WORD. Fairer. not easier. Because this game is still tough as nails. Not as tough as Castlevania III mind you, but tough nonetheless. Also loved the added misty and enviormental effects they added for this game. For example in an monster filled library you can see books vibrating on their own, as if possed by ghost. They don't actually harm you but they contribute so much to the already creepy atmosphere of the place. It is little things like that that makes the games enviorment so pleasing. The combat is improved and as i said the levels are more fairer. More often than not when I died, I felt like it was my own mistake. Not the game's fault like in the previous games.

Anyway to summarize, GIVE THIS GAME A SHOT. IT IS FUCKING BEAUTIFUL....IN fact IT IS ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL 16 BIT GAMES IN MY LIFE. FUCKING LOVE IT MATE!!!

For a Castlevania game, it starts of too easy. But the latter stages are really good, with a small degree of bullshit sprinkled in. That's where the game shows its age. But despite that, I enjoyed my time. The game drips with atmosphere in it's music and graphics. I also loved how the final Dracula battle was done here. Although it's not my favorite, or even in my top 3, it's still an excellent linear Castlevania title.

Great game, fun better than the previous ones, better gameplay, music is ok, level design is great, feels more like a journey than an arcady castlevania.

I abandoned it during the last levels, but I think it's a nice game.
Wasn't really a fun of the pixel art, but the game is enjoyable overall.
