Summary

Star Wars: Episode 1 - Racer lets you participate in the famous pod race sequence that was the critical highlight of the film Star Wars: Episode I, The Phantom Menace back in 1999. Take the controls as Jedi-to-be Anakin Skywalker or any one of over 20 pod racers. These lightning-quick vehicles are capable of reaching simulated speeds of up to 600 miles per hour while skimming a mere 4 feet above the ground. Feel the full-force blast while avoiding hazards such as methane lakes, meteor showers, and the notorious Tusken Raiders. You can race alone or against a friend in split-screen mode on more than 21 courses that span over 8 different worlds. This level of customization adds excellent replay value.

A very fun game, very addictive and magnificent music. Also, some levels are designed very bad.

Pure fun and personality. Out of all the futuristic racing games, this one yields only to the very cream of the crop, such as Wipeout 2097. Emulate the Dreamcast version on your phone or handheld and off you go.

A classic revived for modern consoles. Still as fun as it was back then!

DON'T PLAY THE ASPYR DEMAKE!!

Play the Dreamcast port for the best possible experience. The N64 version made this game popular in 1999 but it's far from the best port.

Don't buy the ASPYR "remaster" that's available on modern consoles. It's absolute demaster junk.
It's not unplayable, but it's just crap.
Worse than the original release, and here's why.

In Aspyr's port several graphic textures are either missing, or incorrect in 15 out of 23 podracer models.
What I'm referring to are the afterburn flames that exit the podracer engines.
In several vehicles the correct texture is COMPLETELY MISSING, in place is a blank pitch black texture.

Here are the following racers with either missing or incorrect engine afterburn textures.

MISSING TEXTURE COMPLETELY:

- DUD BOLT
- BOZZIE BARANTA
- EBE ENDOCOTT

INCORRECT TEXTURE:
(Afterburn flames are largely shaded down, not as bright as compared to DC or PC ports. Flame is supposed to emit light!)

- MAWHONIC
- TEEMTO PAGALIES (minor shade)
- BUMPY ROOSE
- WAN SANDAGE
- MARS GUO
- NEVA KEE (disgusting shade, why??)
- BOLES ROOR
- ODY MANDRELL (minor shade)
- TOY DAMPNER
- BULLSEYE NAVIOR (yes, even this guy)

and..

- ANAKIN
(In a weird way his engine nozzle spikes light up during boosting. The engine chamber that surrounds the nozzle spike is supposed to engulf in afterburn flame, not the spike itself changing texture like a chameleon.
The spikes don't light up on DC, PC or N64, WTF Aspyr??)

Lazy and irresponsible dev work.

Also the main menu looks awful.
The background image is packaged into pixelised slop. Why can't the background image and menu design from DC and PC be used??

Why can't we even customise the game controls??

Don't support ASPYR.
They don't care about improving a game, they just look for the easiest way to exploit and capitalise on old games. Why were old Star Wars games given to this company? Why??
