Summary

Spiritfarer is a cozy management game about dying. You play Stella, ferrymaster to the deceased, a Spiritfarer. Build a boat to explore the world, then befriend and care for spirits before finally releasing them into the afterlife. Farm, mine, fish, harvest, cook, and craft your way across mystical seas. Join the adventure as Daffodil the cat, in two-player cooperative play. Spend relaxing quality time with your spirit passengers, create lasting memories, and, ultimately, learn how to say goodbye to your cherished friends. What will you leave behind?

A game that actually makes you feel something and think about life and death. Would recommend to anyone that enjoys management, cozy games with a story to tell.

an outstanding game which actually makes you feel something... very emotional adventure. i learned to love and hate these characters with this great and clever gameplay. sometimes it's relaxing and others you have to put in a little bit of effort but i liked the challenge. i wished some quests were shorter in some cases i think there were some fillers, but overall i dont have many complaints. in the end I felt so empty, this masterpiece touches many important topics about death and people who you can meet in your life. the story was great, i will never be able to put into words my feelings but i loved it so much!

Incredibly difficult to review. A game about death and reactions to it that has significant highs bogged down more often than it should in tedium.

The standout aspects of the game are truly great: character writing is phenomenal. Each releasable spirit you encounter is nuanced, fleshed-out, and feels very real. The circumstances surrounding each character's death and how they react to it vary greatly and will undoubtedly hit you strongly at least once. A close second is sound design - specifically sound effects. The punch of a lightning hit, the ethereal chime of the everlight powers, the doing of a bounce all feel perfectly placed and make you enjoy each task. Which is good, because you'll be doing those a LOT.

This is where the game falters - it is just SO repetitive. You spend most of your time gardening, fishing, fetching, cooking, building, sewing, pounding, mini-gaming... you get the idea. None of these things are inherently bad, and some are even rather fun, especially with the aforementioned sound effects and fun movement mechanics. But it all begins to get same-y and, even worse, gets in the way of spending time with these stellar characters. It does effectively give the impression of time passing, which the character writing takes advantage of, but lets the game down otherwise.

If you REALLY like cozy-style games, you probably see everything I just said as a positive, and you should absolutely pick this up and play it like crazy! If not, this is still worth your time - you'll just need to hold on to the breathtaking moments and remember them while smelting your 50th ingot
