Set in modern day rural America and taking place after the dramatic events of Resident Evil 6, players experience the terror directly from the first person perspective. Resident Evil 7 embodies the series' signature gameplay elements of exploration and tense atmosphere that first coined "survival horror" some twenty years ago; meanwhile, a complete refresh of gameplay systems simultaneously propels the survival horror experience to the next level. The Gold Edition contains the full game plus DLC: the Banned Footage Vol. 1 and 2, and the End of Zoe epilogue episode.

Mostly a great survival horror experience. I never finished RE5 nor RE6 so Biohazard is truly the best main RE game since original RE4.
The PS5 version looks good and I didn't encounter any technical issues. I liked the story and setting which was a fresh take on the series. The first-person approach also worked well although some combat situations felt very cramped and thus confusing. Biohazard is a bit different from other RE games, but it still felt familiar. The Bates ranch is an excellent example of map design and building atmosphere oozing constant threat. Too bad the rest of the game doesn't hold up as well. The ship was alright but the mines felt rushed.
R3 as a crouch button is almost always bad and buttons can't be remapped, only switched between R3 and L3. Whenever damaged, the screen gets smeared by this awful blood spatter which can't be turned off. I've also finished most of the Gold Edition extras. Daughters was interesting from the story perspective, but End of Zoe was boringly linear and kind of ridiculous with the fist fighting. I liked Bedroom with its escape room setting and it also has the best puzzles in the game.
