Had a chance to turn on my ps3 and revisit this hidden gem. This was my first ever Storm series game that I played from Start to finish. I had played Storm 1 prior to this one, however it was brief co-op matches. This game is very sentimental. Although yes the graphics are a bit outdated compared to let's say...Storm connections. It still lowkey holds up. The gameplay to me is much smoother than modern day naruto games. For starters you can't interrupt an Awakening with the ultimate attack like you can in the new ones. This made it great for us to actually experience and enjoy the Awakening mode without it being cut out by an Ultimate attack.
There are also other gaming mechanics that made it much smoother for example. If you press double jump in the new ones you jump and dash and if you don't know the mechanics you can easily rush at someone who is about to use the ultimate attack on you and get caught. However in this one. Double X is a double jump and if you spam X you can jump around the arena to avoid attacks easily. And I miss this mechanic in the new games.
What may hold This back is the fact yes.. the roster is small, up to the pain arc. Which is fine, it does give you a chance to spend more time with exploring characters. Wish it was bigger it is what it is. This game truly did introduce the aspect of having different story modes like sparking zero did. Where some characters had their own arcs. What I would have wished for, would have been for the storymodes not to have slide shows and have actual animation because I'm tired of shonen games having these kinda ideas to use slide shows. It's overdone and it needs to stop. I'm talking to you Sparking zero. 😩
