Inscryption is an inky black card-based odyssey that blends the deckbuilding roguelike, escape-room style puzzles, and psychological horror into a blood-laced smoothie. Darker still are the secrets inscrybed upon the cards...

Unfortunately my time with Inscription was very short lived, as not long after I started it, I also started Slay the Spire. And put of the two, Spire got me

That's not to say this is bad or anything. I enjoyed the little I did play off it. It's creepy, there's a great loop. It's hard as nails, and I liked the puzzles

I think what made me drop this for Spire comes down to the battles. This game is very unforgiving, and it does have a harder learning curve then Spire

Inscryption is divided into 3 Acts, it does make a very strong first impression in Act 1 as it is genuinely the most developed and intriguing part of the whole package. The soundtrack is really atomspheric and immersive in a good way that only elevates the experience to a memorable level.

After that, the game quality does dip in a very noticeable way, especially in later Acts as in Act 2 I liked the idea but no so the execution as the game overwhelms you with new card ideas, mechanics and expects you to roll with it.

Act 3 is interesting and tries to do something with clever boss mechanisms but it does drag and is no way near the well designed first act. But I really liked the way the ending was framed and how bold of a move the game took near the end.

The game does play the meta narrative card quite a bit throughout it's runtime and although I've enjoyed it, I did wish it added something new to the table but it is an indie game after all so it's an achievement for even trying it and making it work in the first place. Overall I recommend it very strongly to anybody who wants a new experience that'll probably never be forgotten for a while.

I’ve played this with no expectations and it came to be one of the best experiences in gaming, for cardgame lovers like myself it’s awesome, the atmosphere of terror makes the game a very good challenge and there are so many clever outcomes that recent games don’t usually have. If you like cardgames, this should be on your list, the only drawback are the graphics, but maybe if they were better, the game wouldn’t feel the same.
