SHUT THE FUCK UP

High on life reminds me of an era of videogames from the early 2000s where they were stupidly edgy and didn't take themselves too seriously, like Postal 2. It's a nice counterbalance to all the well written, deep and dark stories, or grand adventures that are usually the premise of videogames.

HoL's story is written like a Rick and Morty episode, which makes sense since it is the same creator, except this time Morty is a talking alien gun while Rick is non existent. To many. To many this is understandably the biggest detriment of the game. To me, subjectively, I don't mind the humor in fact seeing a game that has most of it's dialogue improvised is pretty new for videogames so I welcome this concept. I forgive the edgyness/disgusting nature of the humor and just enjoy the dumbness for what it is. Most of the game is a parody of video game tropes, which I really enjoyed. A highlight being one a parody of Psycho Mantis from Metal Gear Solid. You don't get many games like this.

Gameplay-wise, it's actually pretty good. It's a first person shooter that does it's job. Don't get me wrong, it's no DOOM eternal, but shooting is still very fun here. You get a creative load of 4 different guns that all have their personality and feel. All 4 guns are super quirky like something you'd find in the arsenal of a Ratchet and Clank game, without as much variety, but seeing as how they all talk and have their own personality it is understandable to go with this decision of just having 4 guns otherwise it will start to feel very crowed.

The game somewhat also has the structure of a Mega Man game where you can choose your boss encounter before you play their level. And with the setting being both an inspiration of Mega Man and Ratchet and Clank, both being my favourite franchises, I may be a little biased.

This game was a really enjoyable FPS. The shooting mechanics became really fun the more weapons I unlocked and the story was decent. The real reason to play this game was the writing and dialogue. This game had me laughing at it's crazy scenarios, and meta comedy. Lezdoit!

That’s a wrap on one of the funniest games I have ever played. This game shows why review scores mean so little. Honestly just go play it if you haven’t already because it’s unique and just flat out fun!
