The more you play the more you'll get the feel that variety goes missing the more battles keep on going. I don't know if it is something common in this genre of games, but that's something I didn't enjoy. I keep on coming back to this game though because I think it is very charming and I enjoy the first couple hours of a game.
Campaign is cool, but it really depends on each mission. Some are truly a pain.
I bought it on GOG and I got the expansion pack with it, which adds a bunch of very cool stuff like new factions to choose from. Finally, I advice you yo look up the free update made by Dr.Monalisa, which adds even more stuff and makes it possible to play online with the very tiny but sturdy fanbase Empire of Earth II still holds.
