In Divinity: Original Sin you take on the role of a young Source Hunter: your job is to rid the world of those who use the foulest of magics. When you embark on what should have been a routine murder investigation, you suddenly find yourself in the middle of a plot that will rattle the very fabric of time

Would only recommend playing coop. The story is pretty condoluted, and never really drew me in. However, the absurdity of some of the things that happen in the game, while occasionally annoying, would make for some hilarious and memorable moments with friends.
I've played the second one a bit and would recommend just jumping straight into that one instead. Every system and facet of the game is just next level and there really isn't much you would miss out on skipping to that one instead of playing this.
