Single player First person 🔫 Shooter 🧙 RPG 🏹 Adventure 💥 Action 🌍 Open world
Summary

Atomic Heart is an adventure first-person shooter, events of which unfolds in an alternate universe during the high noon of the Soviet Union. The principal character of the game is a special agent P-3, who after an unsuccessful landing on enterprise "3826" is trying to figure out what went wrong.

Phenomenal first hours but sadly when the open world sector gets available it loses a lot of its charm.
Still, the game is one of the most unique and ambitious titles to date,we haven't see someting like this in 10 years time(Bioshock Infinite) and if you get the chance, please do yourself a favor and play this game.

This game starts off in excellent form, but as soon as it turns into an open world game it turns into a mediocre mess. What a shame.

"Atomic Heart" is a mixed bag, but an undoubtedly interesting one. It's fantastic graphics and stylish environmental design compliment the refines, but disturbed enemy design and chaotic combat encounters that require improvisation to survive its often surprising and sudden escalating chaos. When these scenes occur with an accompanying heavy rock Russian soundtrack, you get a glimpse of what "Atomic Heart" is trying to, or at least could, be. However, much like the themes and ideas the game touches on briefly before abandoning, much of the game lacks the depth it appears to have on the surface.

An alternate-history setting where the USSR managed to spark technological growth resulting in revolutionary steps into a utopian future before going awry should be very rich ground for a provocative political story. Themes such as government controlled information, free will, individuality, and the limits of evolution are present in Atomic Heart, mostly via quite jarring philisophical discussions between the killing machine protagonist and his more eloquent glove companion. However, aside from the occasional elaboration on these themes through micro-stories in text logs or the experiments taking place underground, the game doesn't go much deeper than simply acknowledging the themes existance. It doesn't have much to say on these societal concepts, which could be attributed to the games lack of interesting or endearing characters with an emotionally charged perspective to share, whether they be human or robotic. This can also make certain themes that do remain prominent throughout the narrative, such as the temptation/lust for technological advancement and evolution (illustrated in game by the ballerina twins), feel underdeveloped. At best, the theme feels amatuerly handled with an on the nose visual metaphor. At worst, as frequently displayed in the game, it feels unintentional, immature, or gravely misunderstood by the developers, made evident by the abundance of blatant sexual references that are out-of-place, childish, and occasionally uncomfortably insensitive/mishandled. When done well, "Atomic Heart" handles this theme with class and gravitas, using themes of sex and lust to, while in an admittedly unoriginal manner, analyse the modern humans desire to advance technology and society towards a future of convenience and indulgence without regards to how this will make us complacent and vulnerable within nature. It's just rare that the game does explore anything well or thoroughly, choosing to loghtly cover a wide range of concepts and mechanics instead. Ambitious? Absolutely. Shallow? Unfortunately.

This shallowness extends to gameplay, sadly. There is little in the way of creativity with its mechanics, unlike its genre counterparts. There is little difference in approach based on skill point investment or what weapons you focus on, with even fewer options regarding combining supernatural or skill based actions with weaponry. Likewise, a lack of options regarding progression through story or levels limits the immersion of this immersive sim.

another I couldn't finish, started pretty good but got repetitive very quick, enemies are bullet sponges, not much variety, movement is awful, no sprint sort of does it automatically and the power glove thing feels irrelevant
